It all started in 1932. Manuel Nobriga made ice cream from scratch at the Maui Soda and Ice Works Plant in Wailuku, Maui. The local ice cream parlors loved the richness of the flavors, as well as the velvety smooth texture of his creations. Later, they packed them in ½ gallon cartons so that patrons can take them home. It was four decades later that his son, David “Buddy” Nobriga branded it its fitting Maui name Roselani, which combined the Hawaiian word Lokelani and its American translation heavenly rose, incidentally Maui’s official flower. Today, third generation ice cream maker Cathy Nobriga Kim adds life to Roselani Tropics Ice Cream by injecting newer and more innovative island flavors to their classic brand. Roselani Tropics Ice Cream is now available in markets, as well as restaurants statewide.
