hpcfoods HPC FoodsKakuichi Tottori founded the Honolulu Poi Company in 1946. This is a small company with only three employees that was in the business of poi milling. In the 1960’s, the company took on a new venture and entered the business of growing sprouts. Aside from this, they also distributed products produced by other companies. In 1970’s, the company took on the business of vegetable and fruit processing. During this time there was a shortage of raw materials so they made an experimental farm in Haleiwa to develop the practices used for growing taro. In 1990, the Honolulu Poi Company became HPC Foods, Ltd. and in 2004, they built a produce processing center.

HPC Food, Ltd. is one of the biggest food manufacturers in Hawaii. They produce a wide variety of local and mainland products. The company carries the Taro Brand which is their division of locally manufactured food products. The products included in this division are taro products, poi, sprouts, and fresh cut vegetables and fruits and lomi salmon. The local and mainland products that the company carries are Chuh Wah Kam noodles, Aloha Tofu, Kanai Tofu, Litehouse food dressings, Brassica Brocco Sprouts, Ready Pac salads and Fresh Express salads.

HPC Foods, Ltd. is now famous for being Hawaii’s biggest poi manufacturer and a pioneer in developing taro products. They are continuously committed to the advancement and diversification of the food industry.
