In 1971, the Puett family started the tradition of beekeeping in Hawaii with a few hives. Beekeeping is considered as a calling and not like any other job. You need to have the passion for it, be drawn to it and be one with the bees. They need to understand not only the bees but the environment as well.
As all people probably know, honey comes from flowers. At Big Island Bees, they have mission. A mission to provide the finest honey you can find. They carry out this mission through a variety of methods. They use the Ohi’a Lehua Blossom that can only be found in Hawaii, which gives their honey its mild and creamy characteristic. They also use the Christmasberry blossom that is rarely found out of South America. Though they produce a variety of honey, these all came from a single nectar which makes it different from the other honey produced. They also ensure that their honey is unheated and unfiltered preserving keeping them organic. Part of the method why the honey produced by Big Island bees is considered the finest there is, is because the bees they use eat only pure flower nectar. Lastly, because they consider beekeeping and honey-making as an art. Not taken as a mere a job, they love what they do and this translates into the honey they produce.
